The Taste of the Blackberry

At its core, The Taste of the Blackberry follows a story that unfolds like this: Pasqualina, 91, is an old lady full of life who lives in a nursing home after having lost all her relatives. In a sunny day, she decides to run away from there: she wants to find a former love she had long lost sight of. In this journey, Pasqualina ends up meeting Petrolina, nicknamed Pety, an 8 years old dreamy girl, that resents the fact of not having a grandmother. The friendship changes their lives, and Pety, surprisingly, tries to adopt Pasqualina.

Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. Themes of ambition, loyalty, and consequence run throughout. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
