Group Marriage (1973) has become one of the most talked-about drama and comedy films, and this guide covers everything you need before you press play. Led by Victoria Vetri and Aimée Eccles, the film balances spectacle with character. Read on for the full plot overview, the cast and crew, critical reception, and answers to the questions fans ask most.
Inside the story of Group Marriage
Group Marriage centers on a premise that unfolds like this: Chris is not getting along with boyfriend Sandor and has an affair with parole officer Dennis. Dennis invites the couple to dinner with his ex-girlfriend Jan. At a picnic on the beach, Jan meets lifeguard Phil, who later sleeps with Chris and moves in with the other five. Phil brings in a person, lawyer Elaine. The "group marriage" of the six of them attracts media attention, which brings trouble and prejudice.
What sets it apart is how it treats its drama and comedy elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "There Are Marriages... And Then There Are Marriages" — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
