Blackstar

Blackstar centers on a premise that unfolds like this: Blackstar is an American animated television series, a science fantasy story sometimes reported as being inspired by Thundarr the Barbarian. It was produced in 1981 by Lou Scheimer and Norm Prescott for Filmation. The series was Filmation's second fantasy epic, the first being tucked in as a segment of Tarzan and Tarzan and the Super 7, The Freedom Force. Blackstar has many notable similarities to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which was produced shortly afterwards.

What sets it apart is how it treats its animation and action & adventure elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. Themes of ambition, loyalty, and consequence run throughout. Blackstar is anchored by George DiCenzo, Alan Oppenheimer, Frank Welker, and Linda Gary. Each performance brings a different texture to the series.
