The Rise (2012) has become one of the most talked-about thriller, drama, and crime films, and this guide covers everything you need before you press play. Led by Luke Treadaway and Timothy Spall, the film balances spectacle with character. Below you'll find an honest look at the story, the people behind it, and whether it deserves a spot in your queue.
The Rise plot and story overview
The Rise centers on a premise that unfolds like this: After being released from prison for a crime he didn't commit, Harvey Miller has revenge on his mind. He recruits his three best friends to help him rob the local drug kingpin whose betrayal put him away in the first place.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "He gave a year of his life. Now he's stealing it back." — captures that tone perfectly.
