Directed by Franz Malmsten, the project blends drama into something that lingers long after the credits. What is The Balconies about?
The Balconies centers on a premise that unfolds like this: The relationship between Kaspar and Marlen is far from floral. Kaspar's attempt to surprise Marlen with a flower one day is no help either, because there is no contribution from the girl. Driven by the momentary emotion, Kaspar decides to leave the plant to a new neighbor, who is a charming young girl.
What sets it apart is how it treats its drama elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. Themes of ambition, loyalty, and consequence run throughout. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
