Whether you are a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, The Assignment rewards viewers who know what to look for. Directed by Walter Hill, the project blends action, crime, and thriller into something that lingers long after the credits. Read on for the full plot overview, the cast and crew, critical reception, and answers to the questions fans ask most.
Inside the story of The Assignment
At its core, The Assignment follows a story that unfolds like this: Ace assassin Frank Kitchen is double crossed by gangsters and falls into the hands of rogue surgeon known as The Doctor who turns him into a woman. The hitman, now a hitwoman, sets out for revenge, aided by a nurse named Johnnie who also has secrets.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "A revenger's tale." — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
