Whether you are a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, Texas Lady rewards viewers who know what to look for. Rated 5.7/10 from 6 viewers, it lands as a mixed entry in the genre. Below you'll find an honest look at the story, the people behind it, and whether it deserves a spot in your queue.
Texas Lady plot and story overview
At its core, Texas Lady follows a story that unfolds like this: Claudette Colbert plays Prudence Webb, who arrives in the wide-open town of Fort Ralston, Texas, to assume control of her late father's newspaper. Her first major print crusade is aimed at gambler Chris Mooney, whom Prudence holds responsible for her dad's suicide. She then takes aim at a couple of crooked cattle barons, who'd like nothing better than to put Prudence out of the way for keeps.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "WOMANLY WILES WERE HER WEAPONS!" — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
