Sycorax

The narrative of Sycorax unfolds like this: Who is Sycorax? The first character in Shakespeare's "Tempest" to set foot on the island. The problem is that she has no voice. She is barely mentioned by Prospero as a crooked, old, wicked witch who vilely locked Ariel, the spirit of the air, in a tree. But why would she do that? Here, we wouldn't believe Prospero so much.

Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. Themes of ambition, loyalty, and consequence run throughout. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.

Sycorax is anchored by Agustina Muñoz, Diana Diegues, and Susana Abreu, working under the direction of Lois Patiño. The chemistry between the leads is one of the production's quiet strengths.

The script comes from Matías Piñeiro, whose writing keeps the dialogue sharp. You can trace the full credits and filmographies on IMDb and TMDB.
