Straight-Jacket (2004) has become one of the most talked-about comedy and romance films, and this guide covers everything you need before you press play. Led by Matt Letscher and Carrie Preston, the film balances spectacle with character. Read on for the full plot overview, the cast and crew, critical reception, and answers to the questions fans ask most.
Straight-Jacket plot and story overview
Straight-Jacket centers on a premise that unfolds like this: In 1950's Hollywood, movie star Guy Stone must marry a studio secretary in order to conceal his homosexuality. Sally has no idea her marriage is a sham, though, and turns Guy's life upside-down. However, soon after the wedding, Guy develops feelings for a writer named Rick.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "I need a pick-me-up, which one's Judy's?" — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
