Few drama, horror, and thriller titles spark as much curiosity as Stoker. Below is a deep dive into what makes it worth your time. Directed by Park Chan-wook, the project blends drama, horror, and thriller into something that lingers long after the credits. Read on for the full plot overview, the cast and crew, critical reception, and answers to the questions fans ask most.
Stoker plot and story overview
The narrative of Stoker unfolds like this: Following her father Richard's death in an unexplained road accident, reclusive teenager India Stoker withdraws further into the quiet rural life she shares with her emotionally disturbed mother Evie. But her curiosity is stirred when her mysterious uncle Charlie, who she has never met, suddenly arrives unannounced. Told that the darkly charismatic Charlie will now be staying at the house, India's initial well-founded distrust of her uncle's motivations begins to waver as she finds herself becoming ever more deeply entranced by his sinister charms.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "Innocence ends." — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
