If Rising Sun is on your watchlist, here is the complete breakdown — plot, cast, ratings, and where to stream it in HD. Rated 6.2/10 from 871 viewers, it lands as a solid entry in the genre. Below you'll find an honest look at the story, the people behind it, and whether it deserves a spot in your queue.
Rising Sun plot and story overview
The narrative of Rising Sun unfolds like this: When a prostitute is found dead in a Los Angeles skyscraper occupied by a large Japanese corporation, detectives John Connor and Web Smith are called in to investigate. Although Connor has previous experience working in Japan, cultural differences make their progress difficult until a security disc showing the murder turns up. Close scrutiny proves the disc has been doctored, and the detectives realize they're dealing with a cover-up as well.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "A collision of East and West. A conspiracy of seduction and murder. A battle between tradition and power. Business is war." — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
