Few action, crime, and thriller titles spark as much curiosity as Renegades. Below is a deep dive into what makes it worth your time. Led by Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips, the film balances spectacle with character. Read on for the full plot overview, the cast and crew, critical reception, and answers to the questions fans ask most.
The premise of Renegades, explained
Renegades centers on a premise that unfolds like this: While investigating police corruption in his department, undercover cop Buster McHenry is forced to participate in a heist, leading to innocent casualties and the theft of an ancient Lakota tribal spear. After McHenry ends up severely wounded, he is taken in by Native American Hank Storm, who is out to recover the spear and avenge the death of a loved one in the heist.
What sets it apart is how it treats its action, crime, and thriller elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "This time, they've brought their guns to the city." — captures that tone perfectly.
