The premise of Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, explained
At its core, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist follows a story that unfolds like this: A movie within a movie, created to spoof the martial arts genre. Writer/director Steve Oedekerk uses contemporary characters and splices them into a 1970s kung-fu film, weaving the new and old together. As the main character, The Chosen One, Oedekerk sets off to avenge the deaths of his parents at the hands of kung-fu legend Master Pain. Along the way he encounters some strange characters.
What sets it apart is how it treats its comedy, action, and adventure elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "If you've got an ass...he'll kick it!" — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
