Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows

Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows centers on a premise that unfolds like this: This documentary follows superstar Bret Hart during his last year in the WWF. The film documents the tensions that resulted in The Montreal Screwjob, one of the most controversial events in the history of professional wrestling, in which Vince McMahon, Shawn Micheals, and others, legitimately conspired behind the scenes to go against the script and remove Bret Hart as champion.

Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "The story of a man who believes in heroes, in a world where the anti-hero is king." — captures that tone perfectly. Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows is anchored by Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Vince McMahon, and Steve Austin, working under the direction of Paul Jay. Casting is half the battle, and this ensemble pulls its weight.
