Whether you are a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, Gibby rewards viewers who know what to look for. Led by Crystal the Monkey and Shannon Elizabeth, the film balances spectacle with character. Below you'll find an honest look at the story, the people behind it, and whether it deserves a spot in your queue.
Inside the story of Gibby
Gibby centers on a premise that unfolds like this: A young teenage girl, Katie, can not snap out of her depression after losing her mother. Katie has lost interest in school, her friends, and gymnastics. All that changes in the summer when she is asked to monkeysit Gibby, her science teacher's Capuchin monkey. Taking care of the monkey changes her life in a big way. Gibby's happy-go-lucky personality renews Katie's zest for life. Gibby helps her with gymnastics, renewing friendships (including finding a potential boyfriend) and overcoming her nemesis, a mean girl who is out to beat Katie at everything.
What sets it apart is how it treats its family elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "Add a little monkey to your life." — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
