Despicable Me plot and story overview
At its core, Despicable Me follows a story that unfolds like this: Determined to prove he's the world's greatest supervillain, Gru hatches an audacious plan to steal the Moon. To pull it off, he adopts three orphaned girls—Margo, Edith, and Agnes—intending to use them as pawns in his scheme. But the unexpected bond they form forces him to question the criminal life he's always known.
What sets it apart is how it treats its animation, comedy, crime, science fiction, and family elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "Superbad. Superdad." — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
