What is Carmen Jones about?
At its core, Carmen Jones follows a story that unfolds like this: In this musical set in an all-Black army camp, civilian parachute maker and "hot bundle" Carmen Jones is desired by many of the men. Naturally, she wants Joe, who's engaged to sweet Cindy Lou and about to go into pilot training for the Korean War.
What sets it apart is how it treats its drama and romance elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "Something Really New!
