The premise of Beasts of No Nation, explained
The narrative of Beasts of No Nation unfolds like this: Based on the experiences of Agu, a child fighting in the civil war of a West African country. While he fears his commander and many of the men around him, his fledgling childhood has been brutally shattered by the war raging through his country, and he is at first torn between conflicting revulsion and fascination.
What sets it apart is how it treats its drama and war elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "Child. Captive. Killer." — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
