Whether you are a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, Bad Tales rewards viewers who know what to look for. Directed by Fabio D'Innocenzo, the project blends drama into something that lingers long after the credits. Below you'll find an honest look at the story, the people behind it, and whether it deserves a spot in your queue.
The premise of Bad Tales, explained
Bad Tales centers on a premise that unfolds like this: In a small suburb on the outskirts of Rome, the cheerful heat of summer camouflages a stifling atmosphere of alienation. From a distance, the families seem normal, but it’s an illusion: in the houses, courtyards and gardens, silence shrouds the subtle sadism of the fathers, the passivity of the mothers and the guilty indifference of adults. But it’s the desperation and repressed rage of the children that will explode and cut through this grotesque façade, with devastating consequences for the entire community.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "Once upon a time there was a dream that now exists no more" — captures that tone perfectly.
