Whether you are a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, Aquamarine rewards viewers who know what to look for. Directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, the project blends fantasy, romance, family, and comedy into something that lingers long after the credits. Below you'll find an honest look at the story, the people behind it, and whether it deserves a spot in your queue.
The premise of Aquamarine, explained
The narrative of Aquamarine unfolds like this: Two teenage girls discover that mermaids really do exist after a violent storm washes one ashore. The mermaid, a sassy creature named Aquamarine, is determined to prove to her father that real love exists, and enlists the girls' help in winning the heart of a handsome lifeguard.
What sets it apart is how it treats its fantasy, romance, family, and comedy elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. The tagline — "A Fish-Out-Of-Water Comedy." — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
