What is And yet they were there about?
At its core, And yet they were there follows a story that unfolds like this: Dominique, Suzanne, and Annette: three women who participated in the adventure of the Medvedkine groups (Besançon, Sochaux, 1967-1974). In those same years, the lives of our grandmothers and mothers experienced decisive changes: they worked outside the home and revolutionized customs. A group of Besançon students are investigating those events and questioning their own family memory.
What sets it apart is how it treats its documentary elements not as decoration but as the engine of the plot. Themes of ambition, loyalty, and consequence run throughout. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
