American Raspberry (1977) has become one of the most talked-about comedy films, and this guide covers everything you need before you press play. Led by Joanna Cassidy and Warren Oates, the film balances spectacle with character. Read on for the full plot overview, the cast and crew, critical reception, and answers to the questions fans ask most.
Inside the story of American Raspberry
American Raspberry centers on a premise that unfolds like this: Some unknown source has interrupted all television transmissions around the world. In place of the regular broadcasts, a lineup of extremely tasteless programs and commercials have been substituted. Included in the mix are such show as The Shitheads, The Charles Whitman Invitational, and commercials for a number of improbable products.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "The Movie That Grabs TV by the Dials and Won't Let Go!" — captures that tone perfectly.
