If Aim for the Roses is on your watchlist, here is the complete breakdown — plot, cast, ratings, and where to stream it in HD. Directed by John Bolton, the project blends documentary, music, and history into something that lingers long after the credits. Below you'll find an honest look at the story, the people behind it, and whether it deserves a spot in your queue.
The premise of Aim for the Roses, explained
Aim for the Roses centers on a premise that unfolds like this: In 1976, Canadian stuntman Ken Carter declared his intention to jump a mile over the St. Lawrence Seaway in a rocket powered car. In 2008, Canadian musician Mark Haney declared his intention to pay tribute to Ken Carter in the form of a concept album for solo double bass. In 2011, Canadian filmmaker John Bolton declared his intention to make a "musical docudrama" about both men. Aim for the Roses is a one-of-a-kind film, about a one-of-a-kind album, about a one-of-a-kind stunt, all three of which could only happen in Canada.
The pacing rewards patient viewers, layering small details that pay off later. The tagline — "A film about an album about a stunt" — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
