The premise of A Month in the Country, explained
At its core, A Month in the Country follows a story that unfolds like this: A destitute WWI veteran is hired to help carry out restoration work on a medieval mural in a rural Yorkshire church. While living in the quiet village, he forms a close friendship with an archaeologist and begins to come to terms with his trauma.
Rather than rushing, the film lets tension build naturally, trusting the audience to keep up. The tagline — "They hoped to heal the scars of war away in a small English village. But the war within was just beginning…" — captures that tone perfectly. For a frame-by-frame breakdown, the dedicated Wikipedia entry and IMDb trivia pages are excellent companions.
